Suryakumar Yadav Nears 3,000 T20 Runs Ahead of 5th India-New Zealand Match

Thiruvananthapuram: The fifth T20 match between India and New Zealand is scheduled to be played in Thiruvananthapuram. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of a significant milestone in this game.

For Suryakumar Yadav, the year 2025 was disappointing as a batsman. In 22 T20 innings last year, he failed to score a single half-century. His poor form ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup was a major concern for the Indian team. However, he has made a strong comeback during the New Zealand series, scoring two explosive half-centuries in the last four matches. This resurgence has strengthened India’s middle order considerably.

In his recent four innings, Suryakumar scored 32, 82, 56, and 8 runs. If he scores 33 runs in the upcoming T20 match on Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, he will reach the landmark of 3,000 runs in this format. He is poised to become only the third Indian batsman to achieve this feat in international T20 cricket.

Among Indian players, only Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have scored more runs than Suryakumar in international T20s. Both Rohit and Kohli retired from this format following India’s championship win in the last T20 World Cup.

To date, Suryakumar Yadav has played 103 T20 matches and 97 innings, scoring 2,967 runs at an average of 36.62. His record includes 4 centuries and 23 half-centuries. Had 2025 been in line with his reputation, he might have set several records in the T20 format by now.

Rohit Sharma has accumulated 4,231 runs in 159 matches and 151 innings, with 5 centuries and 32 half-centuries. Virat Kohli follows with 4,188 runs in 125 matches and 117 innings, scoring 1 century and 38 half-centuries.
