
Chandigarh, April 8: Punjab Police has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking by dismantling an interstate drug smuggling module. According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, acting on a tip-off from the Amritsar rural police, the Kapurthala police conducted a raid in the Phagwara area and seized 16.8 kilograms of heroin. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with this case.
Initial investigations reveal that this shipment of heroin was brought in from the India-Pakistan border and was intended for delivery in Chandigarh. Investigative agencies have indicated that this network is linked to handlers based in Pakistan and Dubai, who are orchestrating the entire smuggling operation. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act. Interrogations of the arrested individuals are ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify other members of this network.
DGP Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on the social media platform X, stating, “Acting swiftly on intelligence from Amritsar rural police, the Kapurthala police have dismantled a drug trafficking gang. Four suspects were arrested in the Phagwara area, and 16.8 kilograms of heroin were seized. Initial investigations indicate that this shipment was brought from the border area and was meant for Chandigarh. The smuggling network is being operated by handlers based in Pakistan and Dubai.”
He further mentioned that an FIR has been filed at the Sadar police station in Phagwara under the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing, with the potential for more arrests as authorities work to uncover the entire network. Punjab Police remains fully committed to eradicating drug trafficking and ensuring a safe, drug-free Punjab.
