Gandhinagar, March 8: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has committed to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Developed India-2047’ through ‘Developed Gujarat-2047’ during this transformative period.
To accelerate comprehensive development in the state, the Gujarat State Institution for Transformation (GRIT) has been established. This initiative focuses on infrastructure, innovation, and long-term, results-oriented development based on individual and institutional needs.
Under the Chief Minister’s guidance, GRIT has swiftly developed a regional economic master plan to create six growth hubs tailored to each area’s requirements. The Surat Economic Region (SER) has been prioritized, with an initial approval of ₹1,185 crores for road infrastructure, embodying the motto of ‘What we say, we do.’
The SER encompasses the districts of Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and Dang, contributing over 35% to the state’s economic growth. Gujarat, a significant player in the country’s economic landscape, aims to lead in the ‘Developed India-2047’ initiative. Consequently, a roadmap for ‘Developed Gujarat-2047’ is now in effect.
This roadmap aims to fulfill the goal of ‘Earning Well-Living Well’ by strengthening the economy through sustainable development. The SER is emerging as a key development center for long-term economic growth.
The economic master plan for this strategic multi-district area includes the approval of ₹1,185 crores for 24 projects covering 383 kilometers of road infrastructure upgrades. These upgrades will enhance connectivity between major industrial hubs and GIDC areas in Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Bharuch, and Navsari, improving logistics efficiency and facilitating the movement of goods and labor. This will also bolster the textile, chemicals, petrochemicals, and diamond industries.
Industries in the SER, including fisheries, Hazira Port, sugar factories, Sumul Dairy, and papad manufacturing, will directly benefit from these infrastructure upgrades. Enhanced connectivity to key GIDC areas like Kadod, Kadodara, Jolva, Mangrol, Kosamba, and Tadkeshwar will further accelerate industrial expansion.
The upgraded road infrastructure will expedite the transport of agricultural products, enabling farmers to easily access markets and receive greater support for the agricultural sector. Tourists visiting religious sites such as Siddhnath Mahadev, Shabari Dham, Pandav Gufa, Anjini Kund, and the Parsi Agiary in Sanjan will also find travel easier due to these improvements.
Moreover, access to tourist destinations like Mahal forests, Saputara, and Wilson Hill will promote tourism activities significantly. The SER is set to create new opportunities in emerging sectors like semiconductors, green hydrogen, and logistics, alongside traditional sectors such as diamond industries, petrochemicals, chemicals, textiles, and fisheries. This infrastructure upgrade will generate substantial employment opportunities for the youth.
The SER is poised to become a strategic growth engine for ‘Developed Gujarat-2047.’ Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel envisions that by 2047, the SER will contribute over 35% to the state’s GDP, supporting the goal of a $3.5 trillion economy.
The approval for road infrastructure upgrades in the SER will invigorate infrastructure-based development, helping the region achieve new milestones in comprehensive growth.
