New Delhi, June 25: The Supreme Court has denied an immediate hearing on a public interest petition regarding alleged irregularities in donations to the Ayodhya Ram Temple. However, the court assured petitioners that the registry will list the case for future consideration.
Lawyers Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav filed the petition, seeking an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds related to the temple. During the hearing, Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi were informed that the petitioners’ primary request is for the case to be listed promptly to preserve crucial evidence.
The petition calls for the registration of an FIR concerning allegations of financial misconduct involving the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. It also seeks the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the CBI to conduct a fair and timely inquiry into any potential misappropriation or corruption of donation funds.
Additionally, the petitioners requested the court to issue directives to secure all records, including bank accounts, donation registers, audit reports, and CCTV footage. They urged the court to prevent any destruction or tampering of evidence.
In response, Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi declined the request for an expedited hearing. The bench instructed the petitioners to mention the case again before the vacation bench on Monday, stating, “The registry will list it. You will receive a date.”
Meanwhile, a three-member SIT, chaired by Lucknow’s Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, has recently submitted its preliminary report to the state government. However, a detailed investigation into the alleged financial irregularities in the temple’s funds is still ongoing.
