Woman Commits Suicide in New Delhi, Accuses In-Laws of Mental Torture

New Delhi, June 25: A 24-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide in her in-laws’ home located in the Nangloi area of New Delhi. Before her death, she recorded two videos accusing her husband and in-laws of persistent harassment.

According to police officials, the Nangloi police station received a report of the incident at 11:09 AM on Monday. The report indicated that a 26-year-old woman from Nangloi Extension was brought to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (SGM) Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.

Initial investigations revealed that the woman allegedly hanged herself. Since her death occurred within seven years of marriage, the case has been referred to the relevant Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for legal proceedings.

Authorities stated that the Tehsildar of Mundka recorded a statement from the deceased’s mother, who claimed that her daughter’s husband, Rohit, often assaulted her while under the influence of alcohol. The family asserts that the woman had been facing difficulties in her marital life for an extended period.

Investigators also gathered information regarding Rohit’s health condition. Officials noted that he is undergoing treatment for a severe head injury sustained in an accident a few months ago. Medical reports shared during the inquiry indicate that his condition remains critical, and doctors have stated that “the young man is unlikely to survive more than 2-3 years.”

As the investigation progressed, family members of the deceased provided two videos, allegedly recorded shortly before her death. Police confirmed that these recordings are currently under examination.

According to officials, the videos depict “intense psychological distress and threats to life due to ongoing harassment by her husband.” Investigators are assessing the content of the recordings alongside other available evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

On Tuesday, a post-mortem was conducted on the deceased as part of the legal process. Based on the allegations made by the family and the information collected thus far, police have filed a case against the husband.

The investigation is ongoing, with police scrutinizing all aspects of the case.
