Guwahati, July 23: The Indian Army has ramped up its flood relief efforts in Assam under Operation ‘Jal Rahat’. Working alongside state administration and various civilian agencies, the Army is actively conducting rescue, relief, and medical assistance operations in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat.
As of July 22, at 4 PM, four relief teams have been deployed. These teams are focused on safely evacuating individuals from affected areas, providing medical assistance, and distributing essential relief supplies.
In Sivasagar district, troops operating from Gadgaon College have conducted rescue operations in several flood-hit areas, including Balung village and the ONGC colony. Additionally, medical camps have been established in Kendu Gudi and Balung villages of Nazira Tehsil, where Army medical teams have provided primary treatment and essential health services to 84 flood-affected individuals, comprising 32 men, 34 women, and 18 children.
Another relief team operating from Amguri has continued its rescue efforts while distributing necessary relief materials to affected families.
In Charaideo district, three Army relief teams are simultaneously conducting operations in the Sonari, Patsakoo, and D.K. village areas. Despite fresh flooding in the Patsakoo region due to the rising Disang River, the Army has maintained uninterrupted relief and rescue operations.
In Jorhat district, one relief team has established a control center in Mariyani. The team has surveyed flood-affected areas including the Tiok revenue circle, Bhagmukh, Narang Pachani village, and Bengali village, coordinating with district administration for immediate action as needed.
According to the Indian Army, by July 22 at 4 PM, Operation ‘Jal Rahat’ had successfully rescued 990 men, women, and children. A total of 460 food packets have been distributed, along with over 5,000 bottled water supplies. More than 400 individuals have received medical assistance through field medical teams and medical camps.
The Indian Army has expressed its commitment to providing every possible support to the people of Assam during this challenging time. Relief and rescue operations will continue around the clock in coordination with state administration, with additional resources on standby for immediate deployment if necessary.
