Solar Initiative in Damoh Reduces Electricity Costs and Boosts Income

Damoh, March 23: Residents in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, are reaping the benefits of the PM Surya Home Scheme, which has significantly alleviated their electricity woes. Under this initiative, rooftops are transforming into small powerhouses, leading to reduced electricity expenses and additional income. Beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for this program.

The impact of the scheme is evident in the Tendukheda area, where over a dozen families have connected to solar energy. Consumers have installed solar panels ranging from 3 to 5 kilowatts on their rooftops. Previously, during the summer months, electricity bills soared to between ₹5,000 and ₹7,000. Now, these costs have plummeted to just ₹400 to ₹500.

Santosh Kumar Jain, a beneficiary, shared that he installed a 3-kilowatt solar panel on his roof, receiving a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the central government. This solar energy now powers his grocery store equipment as well as his household needs.

Another beneficiary, Satyanarayan Soni, mentioned that he opted for a 5-kilowatt solar connection, which cost around ₹2 to ₹3 lakh. However, the central government provided a substantial relief with a subsidy of ₹78,000. The electricity generated from the solar panels powers all household appliances, including the TV, fans, refrigerator, water motor, and induction cooktop.

Beneficiaries have learned about the solar panels through social media and received comprehensive information from the electricity department. After discovering the scheme, many have installed panels at home. One user noted that their solar panel generates 30 units of electricity daily, ensuring their home remains lit even during power outages. Previously, their bill was around ₹4,000; now, they only pay ₹400 as a meter charge. They encourage everyone to take advantage of this scheme and install solar panels.

Shivam Dubey, a fertilizer and seed trader, also installed solar panels on his shop’s roof after learning about the scheme via social media. He contacted the electricity department and installed a 3-kilowatt solar panel. This project, costing approximately ₹2 lakh, came with a direct subsidy of ₹78,000 from the central government, significantly easing his financial burden.
