Mumbai, July 22: The beloved ‘Mirzapur’ franchise is set to make its big-screen debut with ‘Mirzapur: The Film.’ Actress Shweta Tripathi will reprise her popular role as Golu Gupta. Ahead of the film’s release, she shared insights about her character’s evolution, her experiences with the franchise, and the affection from fans.
Tripathi noted that Golu’s character has undergone significant transformation, evolving from a girl into a strong woman. This journey involves navigating emotions like strength, pain, revenge, and ambition.
Reflecting on the show’s journey, she said, “When we began filming ‘Mirzapur’ nearly eight years ago, none of us anticipated such a long and special journey. As an artist, you hope your work resonates with people, but it’s rare for a show to become part of conversations, memes, celebrations, and everyday language. ‘Mirzapur’ has achieved that.”
She added, “This franchise has given the cast an identity they never imagined. The audience not only loved the story but also felt a deep connection with the characters. Even today, people recognize me more as Golu Didi than by my real name.”
Discussing the film’s expansion, she stated, “This isn’t just an attempt to bring a series to the big screen; it’s a testament to the love from the audience who embraced this story and its characters over the years. After each season, viewers wanted more, discussed the characters, and created their own theories. In many ways, this film belongs to both us and the audience.”
Tripathi also spoke about Golu Gupta’s emotional journey. “Initially, Golu was a girl who moved forward with her understanding of right and wrong, but circumstances gradually changed her. She faced many pains, dealt with feelings of revenge, and tried to carve out her identity with strength.”
She emphasized, “Playing this character has been special for me because I have felt every change in Golu. I have lived with her for many years. She started as a young woman who believed in doing the right thing and gradually became someone who manages herself amid strength, sorrow, revenge, and ambition.”
Tripathi concluded, “For any artist, having a character resonate with people’s lives is the greatest achievement. Golu Gupta will remain one of the most memorable roles in my career.”
