Mumbai, August 24: Making a mark in the film industry with a debut film is no easy feat, but Vijayta Pandit is one of those actresses who ruled the Hindi film industry in the 1980s. She is among the select few who gained immense recognition in Bollywood right from her first film, earning her place among the top and most popular actresses.
Born on August 25, 1967, in Mumbai, Vijayta came from a prestigious family. Her father, Pratap Narayan Pandit, was a classical singer, and her uncle, Pandit Jasraj, was a renowned classical vocalist. Her elder sister, Sulakshana Pandit, was also a well-known actress and singer in the industry. Additionally, her brothers, Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit, are famous music composers in Bollywood.
Vijayta began her acting career at just 14 years old with the film ‘Love Story,’ produced by Rajendra Kumar and starring Kumar Gaurav, in 1981. Her remarkable performance in her debut film catapulted her to stardom overnight. ‘Love Story’ became a blockbuster at the box office, earning her significant acclaim for her acting skills.
Following the success of ‘Love Story,’ Vijayta starred in several successful films, including ‘Mohabbat,’ ‘Kar Thip,’ ‘Jeete Hain Shaan Se,’ ‘Deewana Tere Naam Ka,’ ‘Jaljala,’ ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar,’ ‘Sazish,’ ‘Aag Ke Shole,’ and ‘Kasam Dhandhe Ki.’
In addition to being an exceptional actress, Vijayta was also a talented playback singer, lending her voice to numerous films and albums. On the personal front, she has been married twice. Her first marriage was to film director Sameer Malkan, which did not last long and ended in divorce.
In 1990, Vijayta married renowned music composer Aadesh Shrivastava. The couple had two sons together. Tragically, Aadesh passed away in 2015 due to cancer, leaving Vijayta to face numerous challenges. Currently, she is living a quiet life in Mumbai with her family and sons, away from the acting spotlight.
