Mumbai, August 24: Actress Kriti Sanon is facing backlash on social media due to her outfit in a recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement. Fellow actress Kangana Ranaut has now weighed in on the controversy.
The ad, released by a jewelry brand named Giva, features Kriti in an off-white ensemble, which includes a bralette-style blouse, a cape, and a draped skirt.
As soon as the advertisement was released, it sparked intense debate online. Many viewers felt that the outfit was inappropriate for a campaign tied to an Indian traditional festival.
On Monday, Kangana took to her Instagram Stories to express her views. She stated that while women today enjoy the freedom to choose their clothing, they should still adhere to certain boundaries.
In her latest post, the “Queen” actress wrote, “It is a wonderful time to be a woman; our wardrobes are filled with various outfits. Today’s woman is global. From cocktail dresses to lehengas, jeans to sarees, bikinis to salwar-kameez, we have so many options. So why would you wear a bikini or undergarments to tie a rakhi on your brother? Where have your styling options gone? This ad has been deliberately made to appear ‘odd’.”
Meanwhile, some critics of Kriti expressed sentiments such as, “When I saw this, I felt… the age of Kali Yuga has arrived… people are reverting to a predatory era, starting with clothing,” and “Bollywood is filled with people who do not believe in Hindu traditions and only pretend for popularity.” Others remarked, “What society once deemed inappropriate is now considered normal. This is the ‘new freedom’ – a society without rules.”
