Bengaluru, June 24: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her daughter and grandson in an apartment complex. The victim, identified as Jayamma from Hanneenakere in Hassan district, had objected to their drinking habits. Police have arrested the suspects.
The Bengaluru southwest division police stated that a case was registered at the Kengeri police station following a complaint from a resident of the apartment complex. The accused include Jayamma’s 49-year-old daughter, Bhagyashree, and her 26-year-old grandson, Kushal.
According to the complaint filed by resident Dhananjay, Bhagyashree and Kushal lived in flat number 107 on the first floor of the Monisha Enclave apartment. Jayamma frequently visited them. Dhananjay alleged that the duo had been consuming alcohol regularly and causing disturbances in the apartment for several months. Residents had raised concerns about their behavior, leading to Kushal’s previous admission to a rehabilitation center.
However, he returned home a few weeks ago, and the disturbances resumed. Jayamma had reportedly been staying at the flat for several days, during which loud arguments were frequently heard.
The night before the incident, residents reported hearing loud arguments and screams coming from the flat. Jayamma was allegedly heard calling for help. Upon returning home on the night of June 22, Dhananjay found police officers, residents, and relatives gathered outside the flat. Upon entering, he discovered Jayamma lying near the bathroom in the hall.
Residents informed him that Bhagyashree and Kushal had reportedly attacked Jayamma with a cricket bat and wooden sticks between 5 AM and 8 AM on June 22. Based on the complaint, police have filed a murder case against Bhagyashree and Kushal. Further investigations are ongoing.
