Datia, March 31: A shocking incident has unfolded in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, sending shockwaves through the community.
On Tuesday morning, in the Civil Lines police station area, unidentified assailants shot and killed a man named Kallu Kushwaha at Sevda Chungi, also known as the small bus stand.
Reports suggest that the deceased was a BJP councilor; however, neither the party nor the police have confirmed this information.
According to police officials, the attack occurred around 9:00 AM. Kushwaha was returning home after offering prayers at a nearby Hanuman temple when 5-6 attackers ambushed him, firing indiscriminately. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.
After executing the attack, the assailants threatened witnesses present at the scene and fled on motorcycles. This brutal murder in a busy public area has instilled fear among local residents.
Reports indicate that despite the proximity of a police outpost, Kushwaha’s body lay on the road for nearly half an hour before authorities arrived. This delay has sparked outrage among the public, raising concerns about local security. In response, family members of the victim, along with others, protested outside the Kotwali police station, demanding the arrest of the culprits.
The police managed to calm the protesters, assuring them that the suspects would be apprehended swiftly and that stringent action would be taken against them.
Authorities suspect that a personal vendetta may be behind the murder. However, they have not yet clarified how many attackers were involved in the crime.
The investigation is ongoing, and police sources indicate that Kushwaha had a criminal history, having previously been convicted in a murder case and released on bail four months ago. Some reports suggest he was out for a morning walk when the attack occurred.
A police official stated that the exact motive for the crime remains unclear. Initial investigations suggest that personal animosity could be a primary factor. Efforts to locate the suspects are underway, and senior officials have assured the public that the perpetrators will be captured soon.
“We have registered a case and are investigating all angles. We are analyzing CCTV footage and gathering leads from the area,” said a police officer.
Notably, this murder occurred shortly after Datia police had launched extensive patrols in urban and rural areas on March 30, claiming to have arrested 88 fugitives, including 10 with outstanding warrants.
