New Delhi, April 9: During the ongoing elections in Kerala, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor asserted that the BJP-led NDA lacks credibility in the state. He labeled the BJP as a “zero-seat party.”
Tharoor cast his vote in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. After voting, he stated, “The NDA will not win any seats in Kerala. It has no credibility on any issue related to forming a government. Out of 140 seats, there are barely two where they can be considered strong contenders.”
Commenting on the electoral prospects of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), Tharoor said, “In 2011, when we had the chance to govern, we received a very slim majority. This time, I expect better results so that our government has a stronger foundation to bring about real change.”
He dismissed the NDA’s presence in the state, saying, “I have toured the entire state. I see no significant signs of a strong NDA presence. There is a three-way contest here, with UDF, LDF, and NDA all competing against each other. Therefore, I cannot believe that the NDA has any chance of winning anywhere.”
Tharoor expressed satisfaction with the initial voter turnout, calling it a positive sign for democracy. He remarked, “I came to vote at my booth today, and I was very pleased to see that voting was robust. It seems that this is an election where Kerala’s voters are coming out in large numbers, which is a very good sign. It means that the people of Kerala are not leaving this decision solely to political workers and party members.”
Additionally, the Congress MP commented on the Women’s Reservation Bill, reiterating the party’s stance. He stated, “We were the ones who initiated this. In fact, it was Sonia Gandhi who introduced the first Women’s Reservation Bill during the UPA government. Therefore, we want women’s reservation; the question is, what will be the method? What changes do they want to make? We have not seen the bill yet.”
