Dhaka, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : India and Bangladesh have reinforced their longstanding bilateral relations, engaging in discussions on various mutual interests. This dialogue took place during a meeting in Dhaka between India’s High Commissioner, Dinesh Trivedi, and Bangladesh’s Minister for Liberation War Affairs, Ahmed Azam Khan.
On social media platform X, the Indian High Commission announced that High Commissioner Trivedi met with Minister Khan on September 30 for a courtesy visit. Both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to the enduring relationship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
Trivedi emphasized the need for thorough preparation ahead of an upcoming meeting between Prime Ministers Tarik Rahman and Narendra Modi. He noted that there is no rush for this meeting, as adequate preparation is crucial.
After his meeting with the Minister, Trivedi spoke to reporters, highlighting the importance of ensuring proper groundwork for discussions on topics such as trade, commerce, and water management. He expressed optimism about the future of both nations.
According to Bangladeshi media outlet Banik Barta, the Indian High Commissioner stated that a meeting between the leaders of the two sovereign nations is inevitable. He stressed that both leaders should be given the appropriate time to convene, assuring that the right things will happen when the time is right.
Trivedi also mentioned that addressing pending issues is possible if both leaders engage in discussions together. However, he acknowledged that challenges will persist, and it would be unrealistic to believe that no challenges exist.
This meeting followed Trivedi’s engagement with Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, just a day earlier. Their discussions aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore ways to enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.
The Indian High Commission reported on X that High Commissioner Trivedi met with State Minister Kabir on September 29, congratulating him on assuming his role. Their conversation underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration and achieving beneficial outcomes for the people of both nations.
During their meeting, Kabir reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to continuing dialogue with India based on “mutual respect and a forward-looking approach” concerning shared interests.
As reported by the Dhaka Tribune, both parties also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including topics related to the recently concluded 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
