Bhopal, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Hemant Khandelwal, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh, has urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to account for the party’s long tenure in power during his recent visit to Balaghat. Gandhi’s trip was prompted by the tragic deaths of tribal children due to malnutrition and other diseases, where he met with affected families and made serious allegations against the state government.
In a conversation with reporters, Khandelwal stated that while Congress raises questions about issues in tribal areas, it must also explain what concrete steps it took for the development, health, education, and infrastructure in these regions during its extended rule. He emphasized that despite being in power for years, fundamental issues in tribal areas remained unresolved, and it is time for Gandhi to address these failures.
Khandelwal reminded the public that the residents of Balaghat have not forgotten the period when the region faced severe challenges from Naxalism. He pointed out that during Congress’s governance, senior leader Likhiram Kawre was murdered by Naxalites. Khandelwal questioned whether Gandhi ever engaged with Kawre’s family to understand their pain.
The BJP president highlighted that while Congress questions the current BJP government, the public is also asking why the Naxal threat persisted during Congress’s rule and why basic amenities were not adequately developed in tribal regions. He asserted that Congress cannot evade accountability by merely posing questions. The electorate is now demanding to know what actions Congress took during its time in power to address the very issues it is politicizing today.
Khandelwal praised the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in bolstering security and development in Naxal-affected areas, including Balaghat. He noted that the government is actively working on expanding roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other essential infrastructure in remote areas.
He concluded by stating that the BJP’s approach is clear: effective action against Naxalism must go hand in hand with prioritizing development in regions that have long been neglected. This dual focus is fostering a positive environment for change in Naxal-affected areas.
