Lucknow, July 28: King George Medical University (KGMU) has called for the cancellation of the domestic electricity connection at Haji Harman Shah Dargah. The university alleges that the connection was obtained through fraudulent documentation and has appealed for legal action.
KGMU spokesperson KK Singh stated in an interview that the Haji Harman Shah Dargah is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,500 feet. Surrounding it is about 20,000 square feet of land that has been illegally occupied for a long time.
He explained that this encroachment was cleared around two and a half years ago, and the land was reclaimed by KGMU. Related parties have attempted to claim ownership of the land twice in the High Court, but both petitions were dismissed, confirming KGMU’s ownership.
Despite this, Singh mentioned that on July 24, he was informed as the nodal officer that an electricity connection was being established there, which came as a surprise. Upon sending the Public Relations Officer (PRO) to investigate, they received a letter stating that the caretaker of the dargah had confirmed the connection.
The spokesperson highlighted two significant issues regarding the electricity connection. First, no No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued by KGMU for the connection on its owned land. Second, a domestic connection was provided instead of a commercial one.
He reported that the police were immediately notified, and the Junior Engineer of the electricity department was contacted, but he could not provide a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, the police were called to intervene and halt the connection. Complaints have been filed with all relevant authorities.
