New Delhi, July 28: Aditya Thackeray has responded to the Gen Z protests at Jantar Mantar, which demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. He described this resignation as a means to raise public awareness.
In a conversation with reporters on Tuesday, he noted that the movement initially focused on the NEET paper leak and the demand for Pradhan’s resignation. However, it later expanded to address other issues, including the theft of offerings at the Ram Temple and concerns over the government’s functioning.
According to Thackeray, the protesters, who initially sought only Pradhan’s resignation, eventually directed their anger towards other ministers in the government. Issues ranging from ethanol to offering theft were raised by the demonstrators.
He emphasized that the protests across Delhi and other regions were peaceful. However, he stated that if any violence occurred, the government bears primary responsibility. He mentioned that students faced police brutality, including the use of batons with rusty nails. There were instances where police resorted to excessive force, even deploying weapons similar to AK-47s to suppress student voices.
Thackeray pointed out that the issue has gained significant attention in both Indian and international media. He noted that he witnessed the events firsthand, as did the Gen Z participants. The movement primarily seeks accountability for those involved in the NEET paper leak and demands the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Currently, Gen Z aims to clarify its stance.
He also announced that for those in Maharashtra who faced FIRs or were detained during the protests, they can contact him for legal assistance. He assured that this support would be provided free of charge, as the entire movement was called in the interest of students.
