Bijapur, February 19: In a significant achievement for the anti-Naxal campaign, security forces have successfully dismantled an illegal Maoist memorial in the Pedda Jojer forest of Bijapur district. During a joint operation in the Gangalur area, the forces destroyed a nearly 7-foot tall structure built by Maoists. This operation was carried out by teams from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Cobra Battalion 202 as part of an area domination initiative.
In a related operation, the Keripu Battalion 214 team discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) concealed in bottles during a demining operation in the Kondapadgu forest of the Bhopalpattanam area. Following safety protocols, the Bomb Disposal Team neutralized both IEDs on-site.
Security forces emphasized that they are committed to the complete eradication of Naxalism and the establishment of lasting peace, security, and development in the region. They are systematically identifying and dismantling memorials, symbols, and structures that promote violence, ensuring a fear-free environment for the local population.
Officials have clarified that the operations will continue, and security forces remain vigilant to maintain law and order in the area. This campaign is seen as a crucial step in curbing Maoist activities, dismantling their propaganda and perceived dominance, and providing a safe atmosphere for the local community.
Previously, on February 17, security forces in Bijapur also dismantled 12 Maoist memorials during various operations as part of their anti-Naxal efforts. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) D/214 unit destroyed seven illegal Maoist memorials in the Pillur forest during area domination activities.
Additionally, memorials created by Maoists near the villages of Bade Kakler and Pulgundam were identified. During a search operation, security forces strategically cordoned off the area and conducted an in-depth search. They found two IEDs filled with wires near the memorials, which were safely neutralized by the unit’s bomb disposal squad. Following this, all seven identified Maoist memorials were dismantled.
