Sarita Mor: Asian Wrestling Champion Eagerly Awaits Olympic Opportunity

New Delhi, April 15: Sarita Mor is a well-known name in Indian women’s wrestling. As a freestyle wrestler, she has earned medals on international platforms, bringing pride to her country.

Born on April 16, 1995, in Sonipat, Haryana, Sarita hails from a region known for producing numerous successful wrestlers. This environment inspired her to pursue a career in wrestling. Although she was also a talented kabaddi player in her childhood, her passion for wrestling and relentless effort led her to significant achievements in the sport.

Sarita made her senior debut in 2014 and quickly caught the attention of fans with her impressive performances. Competing alongside renowned wrestlers like the Phogat sisters and Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik, she has worked hard to carve out her place in Indian women’s wrestling.

Despite her efforts to represent India at the Olympics, Sarita has yet to fulfill this dream. Her preferred weight class is 59 kg, which is not recognized in the Olympics. Consequently, she attempted to compete in the 57 kg category but was unable to secure a spot on the Indian team for both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics.

Reflecting on her achievements, Sarita won a silver medal at the Asian Championships in 2017 at the age of 22. She followed this with consecutive gold medals at the Asian Championships in 2020 and 2021, and she earned a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Oslo in 2021. In 2022, she achieved the world number one ranking in the 59 kg freestyle category and was honored with the Arjuna Award that same year.

Currently, this accomplished wrestler remains active in the sport while also working with Indian Railways.
