Islamabad, April 15: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has once again expressed deep concern for the health of its founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and senior party leader Ejaz Chaudhry. The party claims that their deteriorating health is due to inadequate medical treatment and limited access to healthcare facilities.
According to PTI, prolonged detention and difficulties in receiving medical care have exacerbated the health issues of these leaders. Reports indicate that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are suffering from serious eye problems, while Ejaz Chaudhry’s kidney disease has reached stage three.
A leading Pakistani daily, ‘Dawn’, reported that the party has demanded the transfer of these three individuals to better hospitals and treatment by their personal doctors to ensure proper care.
The report suggests that PTI’s demands are justified and that the government should make efforts to comply. It is crucial to prevent any unfortunate incidents due to a lack of medical treatment for these leaders or other prisoners, including cancer survivor Yasmin Rashid.
Last month, Imran Khan’s son, Qasim Khan, described his father’s detention as “arbitrary” and stated that the treatment he is receiving violates international human rights standards.
During a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Qasim Khan asserted that his father’s case is not isolated but rather a significant example of the widespread repression occurring in Pakistan since 2022.
He highlighted that political prisoners are being held in jails, ordinary citizens are being tried in military courts, and journalists are being silenced, abducted, or forced to leave the country.
Qasim also noted that his father is being held in solitary confinement, denied family visits, and not receiving adequate medical treatment. He raised concerns that trying ordinary citizens in military courts contravenes international agreements.
He stated, “My brother and I are not political people. We never wanted to be on such platforms, but our father’s life compels us to raise our voices. We cannot remain silent when his health is deteriorating and we are denied visits. If the roles were reversed, we know he would fight for us until the end. We can at least do this much.”
