Shanghai, June 22: The Asian Relay Championship 2026 has been a memorable event for India. Held in Shanghai, China, the Indian women’s team won the gold medal in the 4×100 meter relay. Prior to this, India secured a silver medal in the 4×400 meter mixed relay and a bronze in the 4×100 meter mixed relay.
In the women’s 4×100 meter relay, the team comprising Shrabani Nanda, Sneha SS, Sudeshna Shivankar, and Tamanna achieved their season-best time of 43.85 seconds, clinching the gold medal. This victory stands as India’s most significant achievement at the championship.
India began its campaign with a silver medal in the 4×400 meter mixed relay. The team, featuring Olympian M.R. Poovamma, Neeru Pathak, Teerthesh P Shetty, and Bharat Sridhar, finished with a time of 3:17.06. Kazakhstan won gold with a time of 3:16.75, while the host nation, China, secured bronze with a time of 3:17.20.
This marks India’s second medal in the 4×400 meter mixed relay at the Asian Relay Championship. The team had previously won gold at the inaugural edition in Bangkok in 2024. India’s national record for this event stands at 3:12.87, set by Mohammad Anas, Jyotika Sri Dandi, Mohammad Azmal, and Kiran Pehal at the National Inter-State Athletics Championship 2024.
India also earned a bronze medal in the 4×100 meter mixed relay. This team included 200-meter national record holder Animesh Kujur, Pranav Gurav, Tamanna, and Sneha Shanavalli. They clocked a time of 41.47 seconds, just 0.12 seconds slower than the national record of 41.35 seconds set earlier this year at the World Relay by Raghul Kumar, Nitya Gandhe, Animesh Kujur, and Sneha Shanavalli.
Thailand won gold in this event with a time of 41.14 seconds, while China took silver with a time of 41.29 seconds.
Before a busy season with the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, this championship served as a crucial international test for Indian relay teams. India is also set to host the third edition of the Asian Relay Championship in Chandigarh in 2027.
