FIFA World Cup 2026: Belgium and Iran End in Goalless Draw

Los Angeles, June 22: The FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Belgium and Iran ended in a goalless draw. Both teams fought hard for victory at the Los Angeles Stadium, but exceptional goalkeeping and solid defense prevented any goals from being scored.

With this draw, both Belgium and Iran continue to seek their first win in the tournament. Belgium maintained control of the ball from the outset, launching continuous attacks. Veteran midfielder Kevin De Bruyne attempted a long-range shot early on, but the ball went wide of the goalpost. De Bruyne and Leandro Trossard created several good opportunities, yet Iran’s goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand made remarkable saves to deny Belgium the lead.

Belgium dominated possession throughout the match, but Iran also displayed an aggressive style of play. In the first half, a defensive error by Belgium gave Hossein Kanani a great chance to score, but Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made an excellent save, thwarting Kanani’s efforts.

Iran thought they had taken the lead in the first half when Mehdi Taremi scored after a brilliant move, but the referee ruled it offside, nullifying the goal. Both teams created additional chances, but the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Belgium increased the pace of the game. Alexis Saelemaekers and Maxim De Cuyper attempted to score, but Beiranvand stood firm once again. On the other side, Taremi also made some dangerous attacks, all of which were expertly blocked by Courtois. The match took a significant turn around the 70th minute when Belgian defender Nathan Ngoy made an unfortunate back pass. He fouled an advancing Iranian player in an attempt to stop him, resulting in a straight red card. Belgium was forced to play the remainder of the match with ten players.

With one player down, pressure mounted on Belgium. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made several outstanding saves to keep his team in the match. Despite this, Belgium continued to push for victory. Debutant Matias Fernandez-Pardo impressed with his speed and aggressive play, while Dodi Lukebakio’s curling shot narrowly missed the goalpost. Even during the five minutes of added time, no goals were scored, and the match concluded in a 0-0 draw. Following this result, the next matches are crucial for both Belgium and Iran as they seek their first win in the tournament.
