Los Angeles, June 22: A massive fire has erupted in a warehouse in Los Angeles, USA. Firefighters are working tirelessly to control the blaze, but smoke continues to billow from the site. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), efforts to extinguish the fire in a large industrial building have been ongoing throughout the night and will continue into Sunday.
The fire broke out on Wednesday in a large warehouse located in the Boyle Heights area, producing heavy smoke that spread across several parts of the metropolitan area for days.
In response to the severity of the incident, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a local emergency on Saturday, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
As of Sunday, the LAFD reported that firefighters have managed to contain the fire to one section of the building. To facilitate access, they removed parts of the outer walls overnight.
The LAFD has indicated that the firefighting efforts face significant challenges due to large storage racks, making it difficult for firefighters to safely use water hoses inside the building.
Power to several solar panels on-site has been shut down, and numerous lithium-ion batteries have been removed, significantly reducing the risk to firefighters and nearby residents.
Firefighters are expected to continue their efforts throughout the day, utilizing large amounts of water to extinguish the remaining flames. Authorities have warned that the appearance and color of the smoke in surrounding areas may change during firefighting operations.
Currently, there are no orders for residents to evacuate or to shelter in place. However, smoke-related warnings have been issued for areas east of Boyle Heights. Sensitive individuals are advised to monitor air quality alerts from the South Coast Air Quality Management District and to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
