New Jersey, June 22: Relief has arrived for the Brazil team in the FIFA World Cup 2026 as star footballer Neymar has returned to full training with the squad after recovering from an injury. He is expected to be part of the starting lineup in the upcoming match against Scotland.
The 34-year-old Neymar, who plays for Santos, suffered a Grade 2 calf strain before the tournament began, which sidelined him for the first two matches. However, he began light training last week and is now fully fit, participating in team drills. Neymar shared glimpses of his training on the social media platform ‘X’, expressing his joy with the caption, “Thank God, I am very happy.”
On Friday, Brazil’s manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Neymar has recovered from his calf strain and will be included in the matchday squad for Wednesday’s crucial Group C match against Scotland in Miami. Teammate Lucas Paquetá stated that Neymar’s return will boost the morale of the five-time World Champions. He told reporters on Sunday, “We are all happy with Neymar’s return. He is a vital player for our national team with an impressive history and can be crucial for us. I hope he helps us on the field as soon as possible.”
Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 79 goals in 128 matches for the team. He had been out of the national team for an extended period due to a serious knee injury in October 2023. Before the tournament, Neymar hinted that the FIFA World Cup 2026 might be his last, commenting on a post shared by FIFA, “The Last Dance.”
Currently, Brazil leads Group C with four points, tied with Morocco but ahead on goal difference. Scotland sits in third place with three points, while Haiti has yet to earn any points. The upcoming match against Scotland is crucial for Brazil’s chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
