New Delhi: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will undertake an official visit to France and Luxembourg from 4 to 9 January. This will be his first foreign trip of the year.
During his visit to France, Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron. He will also hold talks with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement saying, “Discussions will focus on developments under the India-France strategic partnership and matters of global significance.” Additionally, Jaishankar will address the 31st edition of the French Ambassador Conference as the guest of honour.
In Luxembourg, Jaishankar will engage with Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel and other senior officials. He will also meet members of the Indian community residing in Luxembourg.
Last November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met President Macron during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. Following their meeting, PM Modi posted on social media platform X, “It was a pleasure meeting President Macron at the Johannesburg G20 Summit. We had good discussions on various issues. India-France relations continue to be a force for global good.”
In September 2025, both leaders had a phone conversation where they shared views on efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. They reiterated India’s consistent support for a peaceful resolution and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.
Earlier, on 21 August 2025, Jaishankar and Macron had also discussed Ukraine. Over recent months, the two leaders have reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across economy, defence, science, technology, and space sectors. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the India-France strategic partnership based on the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, Indo-Pacific Roadmap, and Defence Industrial Roadmap.
