
Kolkata, April 4: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a prominent Congress leader, has submitted his nomination for the West Bengal Assembly elections. In his affidavit to the Election Commission, he disclosed details of his assets, which include approximately ₹95,000 in cash and vehicles valued at ₹2.2 million.
Chowdhury reported having ₹94,500 in cash, while his wife possesses ₹725,000 in cash. His various bank accounts hold ₹21,816.48 and ₹2,026.09, respectively. Additionally, his account at the Parliament House branch in Delhi has ₹618,769.73, totaling around ₹642,000 across his bank accounts.
His assets include vehicles worth ₹2.2 million and jewelry exceeding ₹2.7 million. Overall, his total wealth surpasses ₹480 million, while his wife owns real estate valued at ₹60 million.
Chowdhury faces five FIRs, with four registered at the Berhampore police station and one at the Harishchandrapur police station. The cases are currently under judicial review in various courts, including the Learned Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court in Murshidabad and the First Additional District and Sessions Court in Murshidabad and Chanchal, Malda district.
The charges against him include using objectionable language, making criminal threats, conducting illegal assemblies, obstructing public pathways, preventing public servants from performing their duties, inciting riots, and making statements that promote hostility among different groups.
Notably, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He faced defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and is now contesting from the Baharampur Assembly seat for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
