
Guwahati, March 30: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has showcased heightened vigilance and operational efficiency through a series of successful actions within its jurisdiction.
According to Kapilanjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR, operations conducted on March 24 included railway stations and trains in Guwahati, Kamakhya, Hojai, New Bongaigaon (all in Assam), Agartala (Tripura), Aluabari and New Jalpaiguri (both in West Bengal), and Samastipur (Bihar).
In a significant humanitarian effort, RPF teams in Guwahati rescued a minor boy from a train at the Guwahati railway station. Sharma reported that the child was safely handed over to the Child Welfare Committee through the Railway Childline for proper care and rehabilitation.
In another major operation, a team from the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) in Katihar, led by the RPF, apprehended a trafficker at Samastipur railway station. The accused was found in possession of 14 illegal e-tickets valued at over ₹61,700, delivering a serious blow to illegal ticketing activities.
The CPRO noted that RPF teams also seized various restricted items, including ganja and alcohol, and apprehended criminals involved in illegal arms possession and drugging, further emphasizing their proactive approach to maintaining law and order.
Throughout March (up to the 26th), NFR’s RPF conducted intensive enforcement operations across several stations and trains, yielding significant results. A total of 268.82 kilograms of dry ganja was seized, along with cigarettes, cough syrup, heroin, 1,200 kilograms of poppy seeds, and alcohol. The total estimated value of these narcotics exceeds ₹1.91 crore.
During these operations, 37 individuals were apprehended or arrested. Additionally, ₹7.60 lakh in cash was recovered in one case.
Sharma mentioned that in cases related to arms and ammunition, the RPF seized a pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges, reinforcing their commitment to curbing illegal arms possession within railway premises.
In incidents related to theft, eight criminals were caught, resulting in the recovery of seven mobile phones and a trolley bag valued at ₹86,000. Following actions against illegal ticketing activities, two traffickers were arrested with 16 tickets worth ₹63,668.
These collective efforts have led to total recoveries and seizures exceeding ₹1.93 crore.
These ongoing and coordinated actions reflect the RPF’s commitment under NFR to ensure passenger safety, prevent illegal activities, and maintain a secure and passenger-friendly railway environment. The CPRO of NFR stated that continuous monitoring and active enforcement measures are being implemented to further strengthen security within railway premises.
