
Kolkata, June 24: A significant accident occurred in the Taratala area of Kolkata, West Bengal, on Wednesday. A portion of an under-construction warehouse suddenly collapsed, trapping several workers beneath the debris. The incident caused chaos in the area, prompting immediate rescue and relief operations.
According to administrative officials, construction was underway for a warehouse near the Bress Bridge on Transport Depot Road in Taratala. On Wednesday afternoon, workers were engaged in their daily tasks when a large section of the warehouse roof unexpectedly gave way. The heavy debris fell, leading to screams and panic as many individuals were caught underneath.
Officials reported that numerous workers were present at the construction site during the collapse. There are concerns that more individuals may still be trapped under the rubble, which is why the rescue operation is being conducted at an urgent pace.
BJP leader Rakesh Singh stated that five individuals have lost their lives in this tragedy. He mentioned, “Five lives have been lost. Some injured have been sent to the hospital.” However, the administration is awaiting official confirmation regarding the number of fatalities.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police, fire department, and disaster relief teams arrived at the scene. Rescue workers are actively trying to remove debris to free those trapped. The injured have been promptly admitted to nearby hospitals.
It is important to note that the rescue operation is still ongoing, and the possibility of more individuals being trapped under the rubble cannot be ruled out. Therefore, relief efforts are being carried out with utmost caution, with local residents also assisting the administration in the rescue operations.
