New Delhi, June 24: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two suspects following a search operation in the Amta area of West Bengal. This arrest pertains to a bomb blast that occurred in 2022, which resulted in the death of one bomb maker and injuries to three others.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the NIA reported that its team conducted searches at three locations associated with the suspects. The two arrested individuals, Asfar and Entajul, were taken into custody on Tuesday night. They have been identified as the main perpetrators and are residents of the Amta area in Howrah (Rural).
The bomb blast took place on February 23, 2022, near Chandrapur market in the Amta region of Howrah district. The explosion occurred accidentally while bombs were being manufactured.
The investigative agency revealed that the illegal production of homemade bombs was being directed by the two suspects near Chandrapur market in the Amta police station area. Some of these bombs exploded, leading to the death of one individual and serious injuries to three others involved in the bomb-making process.
According to the NIA, the injured individuals were Jahdar Molla, Mohabbat Molla, and Moinur Rahman, while the deceased was identified as SK Mahram.
In April 2024, the NIA took over the investigation from local police. The agency discovered that Asfar and Entajul were controlling the bomb-making operations. Further investigations indicated that these bombs were intended to intimidate local residents and instill fear in the community.
Previously, four individuals had also been arrested in connection with this case, and a charge sheet had been filed against them. NIA officials stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
