New Delhi, March 12: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met with NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Thursday. During their meeting, Pawar expressed serious concerns regarding the investigation into the Baramati plane crash.
Gandhi shared a photo of their meeting on the social media platform X, noting that Pawar handed him a letter concerning the tragic incident that claimed the lives of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and others.
Gandhi stated, “Rohit Pawar met with me today and expressed grave concerns about the investigation into the Baramati aircraft crash, which resulted in the deaths of Ajit Pawar and others. It appears that fundamental legal principles have not been followed, and despite the seriousness of the case, no FIR has been filed. There should be a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigation into this incident.”
The crash occurred on January 28, 2026, when a Learjet 45 (VT-SSK) operated by VSR Ventures crashed during landing while traveling from Mumbai to Baramati. The accident resulted in the immediate deaths of Ajit Pawar, his PSO Vidip Jadhav, two pilots, and a cabin crew member.
The preliminary report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) cited poor visibility (3 km, while a minimum of 5 km is required), inadequate facilities at the uncontrolled airfield, failure by the pilots to follow standard procedures, and the poor condition of runway markings. The report recommended that strict regulations be implemented for VFR flights at such airfields by the DGCA.
Rohit Pawar, who is Ajit Pawar’s nephew, does not view the incident as merely an accident. He has repeatedly alleged conspiracy, claiming additional fuel, multiple blasts, and attempts to protect VSR Ventures and DGCA officials.
Additionally, Pawar posted on X, “Today in Delhi, I met with Rahul Gandhi regarding the suspicious circumstances surrounding Ajitdada’s plane accident. I presented him with a detailed dossier of evidence meticulously gathered from various sources. I requested him to raise this issue in the Lok Sabha and demand a fair investigation. I am grateful for his support. It was an inspiring meeting with a leader of great legacy, whose family has made significant sacrifices for our country.”
Earlier, Rohit Pawar also met with DMK MP Kanimozhi and handed over the dossier to her.
