Jammu, 27 August (Kiran News). Continuous rainfall for the fourth straight day has led to chaos across much of Jammu and Kashmir, with thousands of people evacuated from low-lying areas on Wednesday.

Officials reported that most parts of the Jammu region have seen nonstop rain over the past 24 hours, causing nearly all water bodies—including the Tawi, Chenab, Ujh, Ravi, and Basantar rivers—to flow several feet above the danger mark.
Heavy rain continued through the night in the Kashmir Valley as well. The main Jhelum River crossed the flood warning mark of 21 feet at Sangam in Anantnag district and, by Wednesday morning, was just two feet below the flood warning level of 18 feet at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar.
Thousands of people in low-lying, flood-affected areas—especially those near riverbanks—have been relocated to safer places throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials added that surging reservoirs and sudden flooding have caused severe damage to public infrastructure, including several major bridges, homes, and commercial establishments in the union territory.
