Ujjain, June 12: The Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a grand Bhasma Aarti for Baba Mahakal on Friday, marking the Jyestha Krishna Paksha Dwadashi. The deity was adorned with flowers, showcasing a magnificent decoration.
Early in the morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal, the air filled with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The temple resonated with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.
With the opening of the temple gates, amidst the chanting, Baba Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit, a sacred mixture made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. The deity was adorned with a silver moon, trident, and sacred ash, presenting a regal appearance.
The temple priest conducted the grand Aarti, attracting a large number of devotees who came to witness the Bhasma Aarti. Many had arrived late at night to seek blessings from their beloved deity.
Traditionally, the ashes used to be offered from cremation grounds, but now, a special ash made from the dung of the Kapila cow and medicinal herbs is utilized. Men are required to wear traditional dhoti-sola, while women must don sarees.
The Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal is renowned across the country and abroad, drawing both common people and prominent personalities alike.
