New Delhi, June 12: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is recovering well after a successful left knee replacement surgery. He has now been discharged from the hospital. The Dalai Lama shared this health update on the social media platform ‘X’.

Doctors have confirmed that his condition is stable and continues to improve. They praised the exceptional care provided by the medical, nursing, and administrative staff during his treatment.

According to Dr. Rajesh Malhotra, a senior consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama’s surgery was successfully completed on Monday, June 8. Throughout the treatment, his personal medical team coordinated closely with the hospital’s administrative and medical staff.

Dr. Malhotra stated that the Dalai Lama’s condition remains stable, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He was discharged from the hospital on Friday, June 12. Dr. Malhotra expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Dalai Lama and acknowledged the trust placed in the hospital and medical team.

Previously, in June 2024, the Dalai Lama had a successful right knee replacement at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, from which he also recovered well.

It is noteworthy that the Dalai Lama has been residing in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh, for quite some time. Since fleeing Tibet in 1959, he has taken refuge in India and made Dharamshala his permanent home.

The spiritual leader has been troubled by knee pain for a significant period. Following his surgery, the Dalai Lama plans to visit Ladakh at the end of June, where he will stay for an extended period. Details of his programs and stay in Ladakh will be announced later.
