Kolkata, June 10: West Bengal Assembly Speaker Ritabrat Banerjee has firmly rejected rumors about joining the Congress party. He stated, “We are not joining Congress.” Currently, his faction boasts 64 legislators, and he expressed confidence that this number will significantly increase by tomorrow.
In a conversation with reporters, Banerjee clarified that neither their MPs nor MLAs, councilors, or district presidents are joining Congress. He pointed out that no Rajya Sabha MPs are making the switch either. With two MPs having resigned from the Rajya Sabha, he questioned who exactly is joining Congress, emphasizing the need for clarity on this matter. “Such discussions are completely baseless,” he asserted, dismissing claims that any of their legislators or MPs might join Congress.
Banerjee also took a veiled jab at Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He remarked that Abhishek lacks knowledge about politics and is attempting to run everything like a quiz, which is unacceptable. He accused him of trying to impose a mentality of servitude among party members, framing the current dissent as a strong fight against this mentality.
He made it clear that a revolution has begun in West Bengal. “The process of revolution is essential and must be completed,” he stated, indicating that change is underway in the state.
When asked about the rapid increase in the number of legislators in his faction, he acknowledged that this growth cannot be denied. “People are eager to join us,” he explained, attributing this to the revolutionary atmosphere currently prevailing in West Bengal.
