Mumbai, June 10: Shiv Sena (UBT) stated on Wednesday that the 12-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been marked by a troubling trend. Instead of strengthening democratic values, it claims that ‘turncoats and traitors’ are being portrayed as rebels.
In an editorial published in its mouthpiece, ‘Saamana,’ the party accused constitutional institutions like the Assembly Speaker, the Election Commission, and even the judiciary of facilitating political defections.
The editorial pointed out that a situation similar to Maharashtra is now unfolding in West Bengal. Following the recent assembly elections, a significant number of legislators from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged that this reflects a consistent political pattern, albeit with different characters.
It further claimed that Maharashtra’s ‘washing machine model’ has now been implemented in West Bengal, where corrupt TMC leaders are being absorbed into the BJP. During the election campaign, BJP leaders labeled the TMC government as corrupt and supportive of illegal immigrants, yet the same leaders are now joining the BJP post-election.
Shiv Sena (UBT) asserted that threats, money, and investigative agencies are being used to entice TMC leaders to defect.
The editorial also emphasized that the BJP’s political strategy is solely focused on acquiring power. It noted that investigations against accused individuals tend to slow down once they join the BJP.
The party concluded by stating that the departure of opportunistic leaders presents an opportunity for the country to seek new and honest leadership. It expressed hope that the nation will once again move forward with a renewed sense of self-respect and patriotism.
