Bengaluru, August 28: Karnataka’s Planning and Statistics Minister B. Nagendra returned to Bengaluru from Delhi on Friday. He stated that he will meet Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to discuss the ongoing controversy regarding alleged irregularities in tribal welfare. Hinting at the possibility of resignation, Nagendra emphasized that he would not take any action that could embarrass his party.
The BJP and JD(S) have initiated protests demanding Nagendra’s resignation, including a 185-kilometer-long march to press their demands.
Upon arriving at Bengaluru International Airport, Nagendra told reporters that he is not intimidated by the “false threats” from the BJP. He plans to address the issue in a press conference after meeting with the Chief Minister.
“I will not be scared by the BJP’s false threats. I will hold a press conference. I am going to meet the Chief Minister. My actions should not bring embarrassment to the party. I will discuss this matter in detail with the Chief Minister,” Nagendra stated.
When asked directly about rumors of his resignation, Nagendra replied that he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister Shivakumar before making any decisions.
“I will first talk to the Chief Minister about this. Once I have discussed it thoroughly, I will take the next step,” he added.
His remarks come amid increasing pressure on the state government regarding alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation.
Later in the evening, Nagendra has called a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, where he is expected to announce his decision regarding resignation.
The Minister also targeted his political opponents, stating that the fight against “Manuvadis” will continue. He remarked, “The battle against Manuvadis is always like this.”
Nagendra’s return to Bengaluru is significant, especially since Chief Minister Shivakumar had previously indicated that Nagendra would address the media directly on this issue.
Shivakumar also mentioned that the matter concerning Nagendra has been left to the party leadership, and the Minister has described himself as a “disciplined soldier” ready to make sacrifices for the party.
