Hazariabad, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A retired teacher, Ramjay Mahto, was shot on Sunday in Hazariabad, Jharkhand, by an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle. The incident left him critically injured, prompting his referral to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment.
According to police reports, Mahto was visiting a salon near Suriyapura Medical Chowk when he was attacked. After getting his beard trimmed, he was walking home when the shooter approached from behind and fired at him. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Upon receiving the emergency call, Shravan Kumar, the officer in charge of Padma Outpost, arrived at the scene with police personnel. Mahto was quickly taken to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazariabad. After initial treatment, doctors determined he needed further care in Ranchi.
Authorities have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area in hopes of identifying the shooter. Police are also conducting raids on potential hideouts to apprehend the suspect. Currently, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and investigations are ongoing from multiple angles. Following the incident, local officials, including Barhi’s SDPO Radha Prem Kishore and Inspector Anil Kumar, visited the site.
Once Mahto’s condition stabilizes, police plan to take his statement. The community is reportedly on edge following the shooting, as law enforcement works diligently to resolve the case.
