Chandigarh, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab’s finance minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, has faced strong criticism from the Shiromani Akali Dal regarding his remarks on the appointment of the new Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The party’s chief spokesperson, Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler, labeled the statement as a direct assault on the judiciary and expressed his unwavering support for the justice department.
Cheema’s comments, made during a recent statement, described the appointment as a significant threat to Punjab’s federal structure. Kler condemned these remarks, questioning the role of the Punjab government in this matter and why it is being politicized. “This is a direct attack on the judiciary,” Kler stated, emphasizing his position as a lawyer standing firmly with the justice system.
In addition, Kler addressed the recent appointment of Congress leader Sachin Pilot as the party’s in-charge for Punjab. He remarked that internal organizational changes within political parties are private matters and declined to comment further. He asserted that the Congress party has lost its relevance in Punjab politics, claiming that it is now filled with candidates focused solely on maintaining their positions rather than addressing the pressing issues facing the state. Kler accused Congress of failing to resolve key problems in Punjab and stated that the party has betrayed the state, initiating a cycle of debt that the region continues to bear.
