Sagar, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : In a swift response to a tragic incident in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has taken decisive action following multiple deaths linked to poisonous liquor consumption in three villages of Sagar district. The unfortunate event occurred between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, affecting residents of Gogra Khurd, Nauroja, and Paatan villages.
Under the Chief Minister’s directive, Excise Commissioner Deepak Saxena suspended three officials: Kirthi Dubey, the Assistant Excise Commissioner of Sagar; Dilip Khandate, the Assistant District Excise Officer; and Roshni Urety, the Excise Sub-Inspector for the Banda circle. Additionally, Neerja Srivastava, in charge of the Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Flying Squad, has been reassigned to Gwalior headquarters.
The police department also took action, suspending Rajendra Singh Kushwaha, the officer in charge of the Banda police station, and Sub-Inspector Puran Lal Ladiya, who oversaw the Gugra outpost.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that anyone found guilty would face strict consequences. He described the situation as sensitive and stated that he acted immediately upon learning of the deaths while in New Delhi, instructing the local minister and relevant officials to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure accountability.
Senior officials, including the Commissioner of Sagar Division, Inspector General, Collector, and Superintendent of Police, promptly visited the affected areas. They engaged with the bereaved families, assessed the conditions of hospitalized individuals, and directed medical teams to provide immediate care without delay.
Screening of households has commenced in the impacted villages, and samples of the liquor have been seized for forensic examination. Initial investigations suggest the presence of methyl alcohol, and authorities are probing potential links to illicit liquor supplies from across the Uttar Pradesh border.
The tragic deaths have devastated numerous families, with local residents reporting that individuals fell ill after consuming the liquor, exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting and headaches before succumbing to their conditions.
As investigations continue, the administration has sealed local liquor stores as a precautionary measure. Chief Minister Yadav reiterated that the government will not tolerate negligence and will ensure accountability at all levels. Further actions are anticipated as the investigation progresses and postmortem reports are received.
