Beijing, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Beijing has stepped up its support for Nepal in the wake of a devastating landslide at the Chiyalong-Rasuwa border. On September 5, the China Meteorological Administration announced the activation of the Fengyun satellite’s international disaster prevention and relief emergency support mechanism.
This initiative aims to enhance satellite observations and multi-source data analysis. The Fengyun-3 and Fengyun-4 satellites will provide Nepal with critical satellite data and products. Utilizing China’s intelligent weather early warning system, known as “Mazu,” this effort will bolster cross-border disaster monitoring and emergency meteorological services.
In response to the disaster, the National Satellite Meteorological Center conducted immediate observations using the Fengyun-4B satellite. This research included animations of cloud images, initial convection data, rainfall estimates, and lightning monitoring from the Fengyun-4C satellite. Comprehensive rainfall data from the Fengyun-3G satellite was also utilized to maintain continuous oversight of regional weather developments.
To meet Nepal’s needs effectively, the international services of the Fengyun satellites have been further strengthened. Currently, a tailored service system by the China Meteorological Administration has achieved real-time integration of Fengyun satellite products. This includes rapid scanning imaging and satellite lightning data.
