Trump Envoys Arrive in Kyiv for Crucial Talks with Zelensky After Meeting with Putin

Kyiv, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, envoys for President Donald Trump, arrived in Kyiv on September 6 to engage in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This visit follows their nearly three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, which did not yield any significant agreements or breakthroughs.

This marks the first official trip to Ukraine for the Trump administration’s peace negotiators. The visit occurs as the U.S. seeks to reinvigorate efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has persisted for over four years.

Upon their arrival in Kyiv, the American diplomats were welcomed by senior Ukrainian officials. The discussions are expected to include representatives from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, indicating Europe’s interest in playing a role in a potential peace agreement.

Witkoff and Kushner met with Putin on Saturday before heading to Ukraine. While the Kremlin acknowledged the talks, it did not provide details on the topics discussed or the outcomes.

According to a White House official, the meeting addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine and potential future processes. However, Moscow did not announce any agreements or timelines for subsequent talks following the meeting.

During the initial discussions with the Kremlin, Zelensky also communicated with Witkoff and Kushner via phone. His office stated that Ukraine is considering a temporary halt to airstrikes on cities involved in the negotiation process.

President Trump has consistently urged both Moscow and Kyiv to reach an agreement. However, the two sides remain at an impasse over regional disputes, security guarantees, and the conditions for ending the war.

Russia is seeking concessions from Ukraine regarding certain regions in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv has made it clear that no agreement will be accepted without its consent. Ukraine insists it requires solid security guarantees to prevent future Russian attacks.

The talks in Kyiv are expected to focus on the outcomes of the meeting with Putin, Ukraine’s conditions for negotiations, and possible steps toward a comprehensive ceasefire.

This new diplomatic initiative follows months of efforts by the U.S. Despite various rounds of talks, a comprehensive peace agreement has yet to be reached. Trump had promised to end the war swiftly, but negotiations have repeatedly stalled due to the differing demands of Russia and Ukraine.
