BJP Criticizes Congresss Appointment of Sachin Pilot as Punjab In-Charge

New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : Congress has appointed Sachin Pilot as the new in-charge of Punjab, replacing former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who will now oversee Assam for the All India Congress Committee (AICC). In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ridiculed this move, suggesting that Congress is adept at playing a game of musical chairs.

BJP leader Rohan Gupta commented on the situation, stating that simply changing leaders or their positions will not resolve the party’s issues. He emphasized that Congress needs to rethink its policies and intentions, pointing to the conditions in four states where Congress has previously been given a chance.

Gupta highlighted the problems in Congress-ruled states, equating the party with corruption. He cited examples from Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh, where promises of one lakh government jobs remain unfulfilled. “How can the public trust them?” he questioned.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal remarked that the situation indicates significant internal strife within Congress. He argued that as long as the party persists with “family politics,” its future remains bleak, which is why it continues to lose elections.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sahay likened Congress’s strategy to the British colonial policy of “divide and rule.” He noted that Baghel faced opposition in Punjab, evidenced by “Go Back” posters directed at him, which may explain the shift in responsibilities.

Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also criticized Pilot’s appointment, asserting that no matter how many leaders Congress brings in, the party’s overall influence in Punjab has waned.

Despite the criticism, some Congress leaders welcomed the organizational changes and expressed confidence in Pilot’s leadership. Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla noted that while political parties often have differences, new leadership can help bridge those gaps. He believes Pilot, as an experienced yet youthful leader, can attract the “Gen Z” demographic emerging in state politics.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai praised Pilot as a grassroots leader, emphasizing his strong connection with the public. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari explained that organizational changes are common in the party, especially since Pilot’s proximity to Rajasthan could enhance his effectiveness in Punjab. He also reaffirmed the importance of Baghel’s new role in Assam.
