New Delhi, May 19: Former Indian cricket team off-spinner Ramesh Powar has made a significant impact on the international stage with his bowling. His domestic performances have also been remarkable.
Born on May 20, 1978, in Maharashtra, Ramesh Rajaram Powar began his first-class career in 1999. He played a crucial role in leading Mumbai to victory in the Ranji Trophy during the 2002-03 season, using his flighted deliveries to unsettle batsmen.
During the 2002-03 season, Powar never batted above number seven. Despite this, he finished as the second-highest run-scorer for Mumbai in the tournament, amassing 418 runs.
His outstanding domestic performances soon caught the selectors’ attention. In March 2004, he was selected for the Indian ODI team for the tour of Pakistan. However, he did not take any wickets during the series and was subsequently dropped from the team.
