Ranchi, July 2: Rakesh Sinha, the media in-charge of the Congress party, has reiterated the demand for restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir deserves to regain its status as a full state, a stance that Congress has consistently advocated.
Sinha stated that Jammu and Kashmir is the soul of India, and restoring its full statehood would accelerate development in the region. He believes that with administrative powers in the hands of the state government, governance will improve, and law and order will be strengthened. Despite the ongoing efforts of the Congress and the INDIA alliance to push this demand, Sinha criticized the central government for not taking a positive stance on the issue.
He asserted that in a democratic system, protesting is the right of every political party. If the INDIA alliance unites to advocate for statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, it would be a completely democratic and justified action.
In response to BJP leader Babulal Marandi’s comments blaming Chief Minister Hemant Soren for the Karni leader murder case in Jamshedpur, Sinha remarked that if the Chief Minister is held accountable for the incident, then Samrat Chaudhary should also be responsible for the encounter of Bharat Tiwari.
Sinha noted that the Jharkhand government has taken the matter seriously, implementing several crucial measures within 24 hours, including ensuring the arrest of the accused, suspending relevant police personnel, and transferring the Superintendent of Police (SP). He emphasized that this demonstrates the government’s commitment to law and order and its resolve to take action against criminals.
Regarding the BJP’s announcement to hold a torch rally over the incident, Sinha stated that while the opposition has the right to protest democratically, politics should not be played over tragic events. He accused the BJP of raising such issues to strengthen its political base. He cautioned that attempting to gain political mileage from a tragedy could hinder the process of delivering justice to the victim’s family.
On the question of the rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee meeting with the Election Commission in West Bengal, Sinha expressed concerns about the impartiality of democratic institutions. He accused the BJP of attempting to influence votes, trying to lure representatives from opposition parties, and ultimately challenging the existence of political parties.
Sinha insisted that all political parties should have equal opportunities and a fair process in a democracy. He argued that if some MPs or MLAs from a party switch to another party, and this affects the electoral symbol or organizational status of the original party, it cannot be considered in line with democratic values.
