Tashkent, August 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a two-day state visit to Uzbekistan. He arrived in Tashkent on Saturday evening, where President Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly welcomed him at the airport. This gesture exemplifies the strengthened ties between the two nations over the past 12 years.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev, focusing on the shared development visions of “Developed India 2047” and “Uzbekistan 2030.”
In his departure statement, PM Modi remarked, “In recent years, we have made significant progress in the India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership. I look forward to discussing ways to deepen our cooperation in trade and investment, digital connectivity, defense, and energy, as well as advancing our shared vision for a developed India and a new Uzbekistan with President Mirziyoyev.”
PM Modi also plans to visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Center at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, which he described as a tribute to the close cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Uzbekistan.
The people of Uzbekistan eagerly awaited PM Modi’s arrival, expressing hope that his visit would further enhance the friendly relations between the two countries.
Before PM Modi’s arrival, an Uzbek woman expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “Welcome to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are very happy to hear of your arrival. We hope that friendly relations between our two countries continue to grow. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Jai Uzbekistan.”
This marks PM Modi’s fourth visit to Uzbekistan. He previously visited in 2015, and later attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summits in 2016 and 2022.
India and Uzbekistan have maintained extensive and fruitful relations in both bilateral and multilateral formats over the years. President Mirziyoyev visited India in 2018 and participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2019.
Following his visit to Tashkent, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, where he will attend the 26th SCO summit commemorating the organization’s 25th anniversary.
