Ballia, August 29: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the government is distributing approximately 50 kilograms of relief materials to flood victims. He criticized the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government, stating that they could not even provide 500 grams of aid. He alleged that individuals linked to the SP misappropriated relief meant for the poor. Today, the government ensures immediate assistance, including housing, during any disaster.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the double-engine government is working with sensitivity and integrity for the benefit of the poor, youth, women, and farmers. Recently, 26 districts have been affected by heavy rainfall. The government is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations. Over 171,000 people and 251 villages have been impacted, with more than 1,000 individuals relocated to safe shelters.
On Saturday, CM Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected villages in three assembly constituencies in Ballia. He participated in a program where relief materials and medical kits were distributed to 1,500 flood-affected families.
During the event, he interacted with the flood victims, shared their grief, and reassured them that there is no need for concern, as the government stands with every affected individual. He criticized the Congress party for stifling democracy and claimed that the SP has become its follower. He pointed out that the SP has aligned itself with those who have betrayed the dreams of Jayaprakash Narayan, using his name for corruption, as exemplified by the Jayaprakash Narayan International Center (JPIC) in Lucknow, which was built at a cost of 200 crores but was mismanaged by the SP government, leading to an expenditure of 864 crores.
The Chief Minister stated that the committee overseeing the JPIC included several prominent SP leaders, indicating attempts to use the center for personal gain. He urged Akhilesh Yadav to apologize to the public for this mismanagement. He emphasized that Uttar Pradesh has never lacked resources or talent; the youth are talented, and farmers are hardworking. However, previous governments’ policies and corruption have hindered the state’s progress.
CM Adityanath mentioned that he personally inspected flood-affected areas, including Bansdih, Ballia, and Bairia, and has remained in constant contact with representatives and the administration regarding relief efforts. He has also conducted multiple video conferences to review the situation, ensuring that no flood victim faces difficulties.
Relief kits are being provided to affected families, containing 10 kilograms of flour, 10 kilograms of rice, 2 kilograms of pigeon pea, 2 kilograms of chickpeas, 1 kilogram of sugar, 10 packets of biscuits, matches, candles, soaps, and a tarpaulin. Additionally, spices, refined oil, salt, sanitary pads, laundry soap, towels, disposable bags, Dettol, and 10 kilograms of potatoes are included. The kits also contain 2.5 kilograms of lentils, a bucket, a mug, a torch, and an umbrella. Medical kits for flood victims include ORS powder and essential medicines, along with sufficient chlorine tablets to prevent issues from contaminated water.
The Chief Minister noted that incidents of snake bites, scorpion stings, and attacks by wild animals tend to increase during floods. To address this, all community health centers and district hospitals have been stocked with anti-snake and anti-rabies vaccines. The government aims not only to protect people but also to safeguard their livestock. Vaccination, medicines, and necessary food supplies for animals are being arranged.
He also mentioned that pregnant women in flood-affected areas are being identified, and separate relief materials and special care are being provided for children and pregnant women. This rapid response is possible due to the election of capable representatives by the public. Each individual is receiving around 50 kilograms of relief materials, which will be delivered to their homes.
The government has implemented various relief measures for families affected by disasters and accidents. In the event of death from snake bites, immediate assistance of four lakh rupees is provided, a service that was unavailable before 2017. Similar assistance is offered for deaths caused by wild animal attacks and rabid dog bites, with provisions for families to receive help within 24 hours.
For farmers or their family members who die due to floods or lightning, the Chief Minister’s Farmer Accident Insurance Scheme provides five lakh rupees in assistance. If a house or hut is destroyed by floods, the government promptly provides land for constructing a new home and approves housing under the Prime Minister or Chief Minister Housing Scheme.
CM Adityanath assured a permanent solution to the flood problem in Ballia, directing the Water Power Minister to make arrangements. He personally inspected the flood-affected areas and identified the need for dredging the Ghaghara River to channelize it. The silt removed from dredging should be used in front of embankments, and boulders should be placed in necessary locations to prevent river erosion and reduce flood risks.
He concluded by stating that previously, floods affected 36-40 districts during the rainy season, but this time only 26 districts were impacted, with minimal loss of life and property.
