
Jaipur, August 20: The wait for the municipal elections in Rajasthan is over. The State Election Commission announced the elections on Wednesday. Voting will take place in two phases on September 9 and September 11.
With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct has come into immediate effect in the relevant urban local bodies.
According to the State Election Commission, the first phase of voting is scheduled for September 9, followed by the second phase on September 11. The results will be declared on September 14.
State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh stated that elections will be held for a total of 10,245 councilor positions across 309 urban local bodies in Rajasthan. This includes 10 municipal corporations, 51 municipal councils, and 248 municipalities.
The nomination process will begin on August 27, following the issuance of the election notification. Candidates can submit their nomination papers until August 31.
After this, the nomination papers will be scrutinized. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is set for September 3. Voting will then take place on September 9 and 11, with results announced on September 14.
Once the councilor elections are completed, the process for electing the heads of urban local bodies will commence.
As per the schedule, elections for the positions of mayor, chairperson, and municipal chair will be held on September 21. Meanwhile, elections for the respective deputy mayor, deputy chairperson, and vice-chairperson positions will take place on September 22.
On September 22, general meetings of the municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipalities will also be held, during which the respective deputy mayor, deputy chairperson, and vice-chairpersons will be elected.
With the announcement of the election schedule, the model code of conduct is now in effect across all 309 urban local bodies. This will remain in force until the completion of the election process.
During this period, electoral rules will apply to administrative decisions, new announcements, and development works in the relevant areas that may affect voters.
Before the elections, the Department of Autonomous Governance completed the reservation and delimitation process in urban local bodies and submitted a detailed report to the State Election Commission.
After completing the necessary technical and legal reviews, the commission finalized the election schedule. Following this announcement, political activities in Rajasthan’s municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipalities are expected to intensify.
Political parties and potential candidates will gear up for the final preparations and ramp up their campaign efforts.
