Beijing, August 20: Chinese President Xi Jinping held discussions on August 18 with Ecuador’s President Daniel Roy-Gilchrist Noboa Azhin, who was visiting Beijing.
Xi highlighted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Ecuador. He emphasized that regardless of changes in international circumstances, China views bilateral relations with a strategic and long-term perspective. Both nations are committed to elevating their relationship and enhancing the welfare of their peoples.
Xi stressed the importance of strengthening mutual political trust and maintaining understanding and support on core interests and major concerns. He expressed China’s eagerness to facilitate closer exchanges among governments, legislatures, and political parties, sharing governance experiences and collaborating on modernization efforts. Both sides should reinforce their development strategies and implement the Belt and Road cooperation program.
President Noboa acknowledged that China is a vital partner and friend to Ecuador. He noted that through joint efforts, Ecuador-China relations have entered a new phase, benefiting both nations’ citizens. Ecuador is ready to deepen political trust with China and expand cooperation across various sectors.
The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean. Xi emphasized that the path to development and revitalization for these regions should not be obstructed, and interference in their right to choose partners freely must be avoided. China supports Latin American countries in maintaining independence while pursuing foreign cooperation aligned with their national interests, ensuring regional peace and stability.
Following the talks, both presidents witnessed the signing of several cooperation documents related to green business, economic collaboration, the digital economy, and public welfare.
Before the discussions, Xi hosted a welcoming ceremony in honor of President Noboa.
