Beijing, August 20: The 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Digital Economy Forum will take place from September 14 to 16 in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China. This information was provided by the National Data Administration of China on Tuesday. The theme of the forum is “Digital Connectivity, Smart Future.”
The forum is jointly organized by the Chinese National Data Administration and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Its primary goal is to enhance dialogue on issues such as digital transformation, the healthy development of the digital economy, and value creation from data resources. Additionally, it aims to foster agreements on deepening cooperation among SCO countries in the digital economy sector.
Yu Ying, Deputy Administrator of the National Data Administration, stated that government officials from SCO member countries, prominent think tanks, major enterprises, universities, and industry associations will participate in the forum. Approximately 500 attendees are expected, including over 200 foreign guests.
During the forum, a closed-door ministerial meeting will also be held. This meeting aims to strengthen intergovernmental dialogue and provide a platform for practical cooperation. A list of key cooperation items for the SCO digital economy sector for 2026-2027 will be prepared during this meeting, which will guide future collaborations.
Furthermore, the forum will feature four thematic sessions covering digital connectivity, digital trade and corridor economy, digital industry applications, and digital governance and capacity building. Interactive exhibitions, supply and demand matching events, and regional tours will also be organized to implement the agreements and outcomes achieved during the forum.
