TMC MP Sougata Roy Writes to Lok Sabha Speaker Following Protest at Kolkata Airport

Kolkata, August 20: TMC MP Sougata Roy has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding a protest that occurred outside Kolkata Airport. This incident took place a day prior.

In a conversation with the media, Roy stated, “I have informed the Lok Sabha Speaker about the entire incident that occurred on Tuesday. As a public representative, I noted that two other representatives were involved. I have mentioned their names in my letter.”

On Tuesday, Roy faced protests from a group of individuals and BJP workers outside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The demonstrators surrounded his car, displaying black flags and shoes to express their dissent.

During the protest, chants of “Go Back” were also raised. As the situation escalated, airport authorities and police intervened to ensure Roy’s safe exit.

Reports indicate that Roy had arrived at the airport to attend a meeting with the airport authority. Upon his arrival, protesters and BJP supporters surrounded his vehicle, demanding that he leave.

Roy attempted to engage with the protesters by rolling down his window, but they were unwilling to listen. Eventually, police and airport officials escorted him away from the scene.

This is not the first time Roy has encountered protests. In late May 2025, he faced a similar situation in the Nimta area of North 24 Parganas, where he was pelted with eggs and faced chants against him.

Following that incident, Roy alleged that BJP workers and supporters were behind the protests.
